Chess Boards

The other half of the jigsaw - if you'll excuse the metaphor - is the chess board. It's easy to make a mistake with the board - spending the lion's share of your budget on the set of chess pieces whilst scrimping on the board. But it's a full half! We advise choosing appropriately therefore - if you've bought a luxury set, you need a luxury board - and here are some of the best the world has to offer. A chess board is as much a part of the display as the set - please remember this. As with any chess board, it should be kept out of extremes of heat, particularly direct sunlight for prolonged periods - this can discolor the board as with general wood items. (As an aside - we did have one customer that this happened to. He initially complained and we were about to send another board as replacement - but he then decided he actually liked the aged effect and didn't want it changed.)

B2010 Luxury Redwood Chess Board 2 inch Squares
Size 20 inch x 20 inch. 2 inch squares. 1 inch thick. Weight 4.78kg (10 lb 8 oz).
The Redwood version of the luxury chess board section is colored in such a way as to really complement the darker shades of pieces. It's quite red in appearance. When we first saw this we were shocked by the obvious redness - but the board coloring grew on us so much that we now regard this as the classic excellent board in our inventory as long as your pieces are correspondingly dark. It's simply oustanding. The finish is such that it hosts luxury chess sets splendidly. The weight of the board is quite significant - over 4kg. This model has squares of just over 2 inches.

B2009 Luxury Rosewood Chess Board 2 inch Squares
Size 20 inch x 20 inch. 2 inch squares. 1 inch thick. Weight 4.78kg (10 lb 8 oz).
The Rosewood version of the luxury chess board section is equally outstanding. The finish is such that it hosts luxury chess sets splendidly. The weight of the board is quite significant - over 4kg. This chessboard will add appeal to any chess set and is very reasonably priced for this level of luxury. One of the great things about this range of luxury chess boards is that they age very well. This model has squares of just over 2 inches.

Sheesham. Size 20 inch x 20 inch. 2 inch squares. 1 inch thick. Weight 4kg (10 lb 8 oz).
A two inch version of this excellent distinctive chess board in genuine and solid sheesham wood - not veneer sheesham, this is solid sheesham! Very good quality thick and heavy chess board with superb rounded corners and edges. A traditional look and feel for this excellent quality chess board. Any ChessBaron set would be favoured by this board, but it is also very suitable for mid priced sets. Squares are 2 inches.

Size 23 inch x 23 inch. 2.5 inch squares. 0.5 inch thick. Weight 2.78kg (5 lb 8 oz).
This chess board is a large leatherette boards suitable for larger sets. The surface has a rustic finish - attractively colored and bound at the edges with a leather effect that gives a very good quality overall look and feel.

This beautiful chessboard is a perfect compliment to the luxury chess set you have - or have in mind. This board is very heavy and polished to a perfect degree. It will age very well - having a fundamental quality of design that will last through the knocks of life that will inevitable occur. The board is wonderful and it's 1.75 inch squares will be suitable for Kings with a maximum base diameter of 1.65.

The white squares have a beautiful sheen about them, although they are, in fact, chidar (or boxwood) inserts. The board is quite heavy. It has a generous margin around the outside of the actual squares to compliment the overall board.
