This is one of two flagship luxury chess sets of our entire range. This chess set is supplied by Chopra in India who originated this design. The wood is Ebony, the weighting is triple. The design of this luxury chess set is simply magnificent. We just love this set. The knight steals the applause with it's designed rustic style and majestic pose to make a luxury chess set that has no equal. The staff at ChessBaron get no work done because of looking at this luxury chess set all day - they are now forbidden to touch it and they're all covered up. The King of this luxury chess set is magnificent. The rook has such a rustic but slender style, and even the pawns are pefectly proportioned. Beatifully carved from ebony and boxwood, the hefty pieces have a real presence on the board. The well rounded top on the King is graceful, yet the detail in the body of each piece emphasizes the grain in the wood. Your king will be well protected by the sheer weight of the pieces, although the knight appears to be able to fly loyally to his aid. Even the pawns are not to be laughed at. Words fail us. But we'll try. The detail on the knight is so beautiful that it almost looks like it could breathe. The head is set slightly downwards in an unusual thought provoking pose as if considering the next best strategy. The lower lip of the knight is precise and clean. The mane style has a flourish. The muscles of the knight are defined such that the light catches different parts of the face and neck with different angles. The other pieces? Sleek, well defined. The rook has a generous torso and is well balanced. Nothing matches the excelling detail of this magnificent set. The photography is good but it's too difficult to catch the real beauty of the set with a two dimensional photo, or indeed, with these inadequate words. A set to pass on to the next generation. We recommend a board with 2 inch squares.

This brass set has a King that is 4 inch in height and weighs a hefty 172g. The pieces are luxurious and have strong attention to detail. The set is clearly differentiated for both sides (some metal sets can be a little confusing in colour difference for each side). Over time the pieces improve in appearance as the air causes colour amelioration, older sets are often prized for their colouring. The detail for the knight is outstanding for a set made in metal - often these sets have only a broad detail. For a Staunton metal chess set this is the finest set we have seen in all respects.

This set is hand carved from bud rosewood. The knight even has a bridle and a substantial amount of other detail. The carvers of Amritsar in India are in demand for their skill, and this is the reason why. To create this piece takes over two days. The detail of the piece draws gasps from people who see it. The pieces of the luxury chess set is triple weighted and the king is 4 inch in height. The rook is supremely balanced and has a full mid section. The pawns are sleek and well proportioned. As with it's neighbour, the Earl Anthony, we are simply amazed at the detail of the pieces and cannot find adequate words to describe the beauty of the Kings Knight. A high quality triple weighted Ebony chess set with spare queens, 4 inch height King and particular detail on the knight. The Mane of the knight stands out and the close-ups show the mane - (reminds me of Van Gogh's brush strokes - is it just me?). The king has a distinctive double cross. The whole luxury chess set is well weighted and is traditional staunton with that slight tweak in King and Knight to add style to this great ebony chess set. This is the Bud Rosewood version of the Bronte design shown. It is a luxury chess set that is both unusual and traditional. We can't decide which we prefer - the bud rosewood or the ebony version. The Ebony is a slightly more expensive wood, but the Rosewood highlights the curves better with it's golden color. It's available in both (see above for Ebony). The 'bust style' of the back of the necks base is the design style which we believe to be quite outstanding and formed the basis of our commission. We think the set belongs in a museum. Every piece is beautiful, but the knight is particularly appealing - the complete luxury chess set takes nearly three weeks to manufacture. The set comes with two queens. The king is 4 inch in height. The set is triple weighted. We recommend a board with 2 inch squares.

X2014 Supreme Staunton Chess Set in Bud Rosewood

This luxury chess set is triple weighted and comes with extra Queens. The Ebony version is below. Ebony is often preferred, but the color of Bud Rosewood is lost with Ebony. Over time the color of rosewood is enhanced as any slight color mismatches are harmonised with touch and atmosphere. This set has a beautiful reddish brown colour from the wood. It's a leading example in luxury chess sets, the King is 4 inch in height and is magnificent in detail and carving. Note the detail of the knight. One excellent feature of good luxury chess sets is the detail in the teeth of the knight. But looking at the knight overall, notice the slight rustic nature of the set. The nostrils are carved individually - each piece in the luxury chess set is unique, but the staunton style is adhered to - it's a skillful tweak of innovation. The ruddy color of the set gives the look of an expensive chess set, but the rustic tweak gives the set a leading edge that cannot be matched in the US market. The board for this luxury chess set should have 2 inch squares, and would benfit from a hint of blackness to highlight the set's colouring.

The name is derived from the shock of hair on the Knight. The style is well contrived - the Knight has very strong detail not just in the mane but in the bridle, eyes, mouth and entire head. The weight is 102g and the King stands 4 inch high. A beautiful box is suggested as an option as part of the luxury chess set as pictured. The pieces nestle in the silk very nicely. The pieces have a wider base than normal, the rook is shorter which gives a solid look to the piece, enhanced further by the turrets of the rook battlement angling slightly upwards. The pawns are well proportioned and are also slightly shorter than normal.

This chamfered base triple weighted luxury chess set is a beautifully carved traditional staunton flagship. The detail, weighting and balance of this luxury chess set is nothing short of remarkable. The knight has that trademark of excellence - gaps between the teeth betraying the excruciating exacting work in carving this piece. A single chess knight for this luxury chess set takes two days for one craftsman to produce from start to finish. The carvers of Amritsar in India are sought after for their skill, and here is the reason. The knight is finely carved with consistent detail and has a perfect weighting such that the feel of the piece in the hand is satisfying and feels sure and balanced as it moves (or more like - glides) from one square to another. The rook also has a beautiful feel due to it's full mid-section and weighting contributing more than it should towards the beauty and nature of this luxury chess set. The king stand 4 inches high. The wood is bud rosewood which is the most sought after part of the rosewood tree, right at the base. It's available in bud rosewood or ebony. The style is Staunton. Here is an excellent example of luxury chess sets offered by Baron where innovation meets tradition. The knights have a solid staunton look but with accentuated muscles and a innovative neck. The museum 'bust style' of the back of the necks base is the design style which we believe to be quite outstanding and formed the basis of our commission. This set belongs in the Tate Museum - not in your home. Every piece is beautiful, but the knight rightly steals the show, another piece that takes two days for one single knight - the complete luxury chess set takes nearly three weeks to manufacture. XX2001 Reproduction Antique Triple Weighted, Felted Chess Set - Rosewood

Beautiful pre-staunton antique reproduction. The design of chess pieces following the Staunton style was from 1850 onwards. The staunton design was taken from earlier influences - this reproduction chess set is a particularly popular design of the early 19th Century and one of the major influencers of Nathaniel Cook's design with the approval of the prevailing world champion - Howard Staunton. The set is weighted, felted and has generous dimensions according to the early design and the manufacturer has taken pains to research the design so as to adhere to the original. Although early Staunton designs had no weight and no felt, Cook along with his manufacturer Jaques, saw the value of weighted sets and felted bottoms and added these enhancements quickly. This set has the improved triple weight and felt included. The Bishop design in this set was a common design of the time, later Staunton's changed to the reduced opening of the piece we generally know today. The board square size should be with 1.75 inch squares.

X2009 Kings Cross Special Chess Set in Camel Bone

This is a highly desirable luxury chess set. The detail in carving of the camel bone is nothing short of remarkable. The material is difficult to work with and the craftsmen have done a good job of creating something beautiful with the bone. Expect natural blemishes on the surface with camel bone which enhances the set as a real bone product with the authentic battle scars of life. (I wonder if I can get my bones used to create a beautiful bone chess set after I'm gone?). The set takes around two weeks to carve and finish completely and is a masterpiece of workmanship. Note the king (standing 3.75 inch tall) and queen for the detail in carving and marking. The staunton style is retained with a flourish of artistry to produce an outstanding example of luxury chess sets. The knight is petite and appears delicate yet is robust and durable because of the material of camel bone. Now look at the rook. This nicely shows intricate detail from the base through to the top. XX2005 Reproduction Antique - John Calvert Design

Rosewood and Boxwood. One of the recognized designs of chess sets by John Calvert - however note the difference with all other sets (that we know of) for this design - these chess pieces are weighted! The genre was always a beautiful design but had the problem of being easily tipped over and feeling inadequate due to having no weight. In time weight was added for stability, but it's rare to find chess sets of this time period that are weighted and felted like this. A beautiful design, a wonderful example of period chess sets. This is a reproduction, and comes with the love and care of modern day artisans. The set says 'distinctive' and 'different' throughout the design. If you need a board, try the B2008 with 1.75 inch squares.

Luxury chess sets like this are for sale in chess boutiques for three and four times the price. The weighting for this 3.5 inch Stallion Knight is perfect - triple weighted. Case and Board Included! This chess set is made from Onyx, the semi-precious gem stone. The chess set is very heavy. The board is made in Marble and the whole set comes in a luxury presentation case where each piece is nestled in it's own silk lined indentation. Onyx is a translucent, semi-precious gem stone of quartz variety with a fine crystal formation. For hundreds of years the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans acknowledged Onyx for its mystical properties, using it to adorn places of worship. Due to it's translucent nature when placed in front of a light source - the colors of each piece is unusual and impressive. It is believed that Onyx helps it's owner to control their environment, enhance instinct. This luxury chess set is similar to the Kings Cross but a little more ornate and exotic. The set has a distinct appeal and is very detailed in it's markings. The material is camel bone - the distinction of this material results in an admirable luxury chess set. The King is 3.75 inch high and the pieces have a good natural weighting to them. The design of the rook in this luxury chess set is especially noteworthy with a gradient on the torso that is well proportioned and attractive, with much detail. The pieces also have bases fitted with felt. The exotic is a good example of luxury chess sets. Expect some imperfections on genuine bone chess sets, wear amd scars from bone mark the material as authentic from the real product - real bone, rather like a sea pearl against a cultured pearl.
