Our theme chess designs are made from crushed marble and bonded with high quality resin. Some are hand decorated, but
many customers prefer the plain undecorated finish more typical of theme chess sets.
The range we have specializes in showing great detail throughout.
Since marble is the base ingredient, the sets of chess pieces shown below are generally quite heavy and are all of exceptional quality.
They are shipped in sturdy cardboard cases that can comfortably be used and reused time after time.
Naturally, spare pieces are available for the chess sets if some unfortunate event should occur, although you'll find
the chess pieces suprisingly robust and resistant to damage from accidents!

Starring George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin, please exercise caution if displaying this in English homes - it might lead to some violent arguments. Of course, being responsible objective citizens and having a branch in England, we are lodging an official complaint that the English side is the dark side with Cornwallis, King George III and Frederick Lord North. The war of independence was of utmost importance in the evolution of geopolitics in the political west. The detail of this chess set is incredible and a fitting tribute to this historic pivot point. Washington is weighted at an embarrassing 295g - we'll have to deliver it with special lifting equipment! He probably didn't weigh that much in real life. An amazing chess set and a wonderful gift.

This handsome set is made in reconstituted marble and has characters surrounding this famous 16th Century English queen. Lord Burghley is the King, obviously Elizabeth I is the Queen, the bishops are Matthew Parker, archbishop of Canterbury, the knights are Sir Walter Raleigh (cigar anyone?), the rooks depict the Tower of London and the pawns are spectacular as the ships of the English fleet. ST2001 Isle of Lewis Chess Set

This historic design is an important part of history - this version is made of crushed marble and bonded wiith high quality resin. The higher quality Isle of Lewis chess sets are generally made from either crushed stone or even better, crushed marble, then bonded with a resin. Cheaper designs can be made from plastic with artificial weighting added, or even worse, no weighting at all. The originals were carved (or chipped) from stone. Found in the early 1800's on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland they are believed to be a Norse design carved from walrus tusk dated around 1280AD. The original Isle of Lewis chess pieces are in the British Museum and the National Museum of Scotland at Edinburgh. Another indication of quality exists in the colouring. Ideally the dark side should have a significant beetroot colouring, not just black. This design adheres to the originals closely.
