XX2001 Reproduction Antique Triple Weighted, Felted Chess Set - Rosewood
King Height 4.25 inch. Base Diameter 1.6 inch. Triple Weighted 95g.
Beautiful pre-staunton antique reproduction. The design of chess pieces following the Staunton style was from 1850 onwards. The staunton design was taken from earlier influences - this reproduction chess set is a particularly popular design of the early 19th Century and one of the major influencers of Nathaniel Cook's design with the approval of the prevailing world champion - Howard Staunton. The set is weighted, felted and has generous dimensions according to the early design and the manufacturer has taken pains to research the design so as to adhere to the original. Although early Staunton designs had no weight and no felt, Cook along with his manufacturer Jaques, saw the value of weighted sets and felted bottoms and added these enhancements quickly. This set has the improved triple weight and felt included. The Bishop design in this set was a common design of the time, later Staunton's changed to the reduced opening of the piece we generally know today. The board square size should be with 1.75 inch squares.

X2010 Traditional Camel Bone Luxury Chess Set
The most traditional of the camel bone chess sets - this beautiful example has a translucence that adds to the appeal, and is collectible as a result. Many camel bone enthusiasts prefer the creation of the chess set to be untainted by further decoration - and this is the perfect result. Look for natural imperfections in the material, which just adds to the authenticity of the piece and marks it as something that once lived (poor old camel!) X2009 Kings Cross Special Chess Set in Camel Bone
This is a highly desirable luxury chess set. The detail in carving of the camel bone is nothing short of remarkable. The material is difficult to work with and the craftsmen have done a good job of creating something beautiful with the bone. Expect natural blemishes on the surface with camel bone which enhances the set as a real bone product with the authentic battle scars of life. (I wonder if I can get my bones used to create a beautiful bone chess set after I'm gone?). The set takes around two weeks to carve and finish completely and is a masterpiece of workmanship. Note the king (standing 3.75 inch tall) and queen for the detail in carving and marking. The staunton style is retained with a flourish of artistry to produce an outstanding example of luxury chess sets. The knight is petite and appears delicate yet is robust and durable because of the material of camel bone. Now look at the rook. This nicely shows intricate detail from the base through to the top. The Kings Cross special is a luxury chess set to pass through the generations of your family. The board size for this luxury chess set should be 1.5 inch or a maximum of 1.75 inch squares.

XX2005 Reproduction Antique - John Calvert Design
King Height 4.5 inch. Base Diameter 1.6 inch. Double Weighted at 55g
Rosewood and Boxwood. One of the recognized designs of chess sets by John Calvert - however note the difference with all other sets (that we know of) for this design - these chess pieces are weighted! The genre was always a beautiful design but had the problem of being easily tipped over and feeling inadequate due to having no weight. In time weight was added for stability, but it's rare to find chess sets of this time period that are weighted and felted like this. A beautiful design, a wonderful example of period chess sets. This is a reproduction, and comes with the love and care of modern day artisans. The set says 'distinctive' and 'different' throughout the design. If you need a board, try the B2008 with 1.75 inch squares.

U2002 Genuine Onyx Chess Set, Luxury case, Luxury Marble Board

Case and Board Included! This chess set is made from Onyx, the semi-precious gem stone. The chess set is very heavy. The board is made in Marble and the whole set comes in a luxury presentation case where each piece is nestled in it's own silk lined indentation. Onyx is a translucent, semi-precious gem stone of quartz variety with a fine crystal formation. This luxury chess set is similar to the Kings Cross but a little more ornate and exotic. The set has a distinct appeal and is very detailed in it's markings. The material is camel bone - the distinction of this material results in an admirable luxury chess set. The King is 3.75 inch high and the pieces have a good natural weighting to them. The design of the rook in this luxury chess set is especially noteworthy with a gradient on the torso that is well proportioned and attractive, with much detail. The pieces also have bases fitted with felt. The exotic is a good example of luxury chess sets. Expect some imperfections on genuine bone chess sets, wear amd scars from bone mark the material as authentic from the real product - real bone, rather like a sea pearl against a cultured pearl. The traditional staunton is taken at base and resembled at the top, with an innovative and intricate mid section to bring together the traditional staunton design with the detailed innovation marking the Lotus genre and bringing together a luxury chess set. XX2002 Reproduction Antique Triple Weighted, Felted Chess Set - Red/White

The Red/White version of pre-staunton antique reproduction. The red and white combination is slighly more authentic of the era. Although contemporary society generally prefers natural wood, the early 18th Century preferred painted chess pieces - with Red and White among the most preferred. Double weighted and King at a lofty 5.5 inches. Well, if ya can't build out - build up! It worked for New York huh? With its weighting and height the King chess piece sets the standard in this fret style set. The weighting is good (double) and is the difference between more economical chess pieces and this fine set of Globe Fret double weighted chess pieces. Many sets that have this kind of detail have no weighting, which is admittedly difficult for this kind of base. But we insisted that weighting be a part of the design and so double weighted it is! M2025 Concentric Ball in Bud Rosewood Chess Set
King Height 5.25 inch. Base Diameter 1.5 inch. Double Weighted 32g.
The largest of the concentric ball chess sets. The King is 5.5 inches high in this Bud Rosewood set of chess pieces. Because of this the balance value is quite high, but normal for chess pieces with this size of King. It's a real delight to play with larger pieces if you have the room for it. With this chess set the base is not too large and only needs a chessboard with 1.75 inch individual squares. The design of the pieces are refreshing with a clear staunton influence but the chess pieces are enhanced by a mystic design interference. Come on - go with me on this.... the imagination behind this is quite remarkable, and whatever the craftsperson was 'on' worked well - wonder if there is any spare going... The set shows a flair of chess piece design with the detail of each piece exemplary. The pieces are all recognisable staunton but all have the eastern design as an enhancement. New! Looking for something distinctive that really makes a individual statement? Here's a very heavy metal chess set that really stands out. Modelled from archeological finds, the Judean historian Josephus had a collection of goblets that this set is modelled after - perfect material for a chess set because of the variety in design making up the different pieces. M2019 Concentric ball bud rosewood Chess Set King 3.50 inch
Once again we have a beautiful example of a set that is just a perfect blend of staunton and a clever bit of imagination. Isn't this great? The Concentric is a twist on the traditional Staunton style to produce chess men that are solidly different than general sets of chess pieces available. The King stands 3.5 inches high. Each piece is dominated by the design of the concentric ball in the middle of the piece - they are quite unique. And I love the expression on the knight's face. Very chiseled and looking very focused. The quality of the manufacture is also very good with the carving of the piece sections very intricate leaving a robust rustic appearance. M2013 Millenium Fret Tower Chess Set
An understated example of chess design - see the cute little knight. The Millenium Chess pieces take the Staunton style and give it a tweak. The chess pieces are robust and have an excellence of workmanship that is innovative. See how the Knight smugly sits on top of his personal column, knowing that he moves uniquely. 'I can jump over other pieces - can you?' The pieces have similarities to the Mughal aftab fret work chess pieces in their ornate nature, but have not soo much of an eastern flavour but one tinged with the modern era. Innovation throughout! Made in high quality sheesham wood these chess pieces have a basis of traditional staunton with a twist on the style to give the Aftab design. We haven't seen this design in chess sets elsewhere. The chess set has significant attention to detail in their manufacture. The knight is the carrier of the staunton flag but with differences. The set isn't appropriate for tournament play because of not adhering strictly enough to the Staunton chess style but retains enough of the design to be able to clearly distinguish between the pieces - the thinking behind the Staunton idea. The chess pieces shows intricacy in the carving of the faces, muscles and an important detail in quality chess pieces - the teeth. It's rare to see chess pieces with such detail at this price.
